Cherries!

One of the hotel guests just brought me down a bowl of fresh cherries. They are ripe and juicy and taste great. Although I am still quite content from the salad and breadsticks I ate for diner I am going to eat all these cherries before I even notice.

One of the things that makes a job at a hotel better than most retail jobs is long term/ frequent guests. You can really get to know somebody who stays at the hotel as often as their own home, so much so that they'll buy you cheese cake (robin) or give you cherries (jean) or just make up for the cranky people that you have to deal with now and again

last night

Last night Sarah Lynne and the notorios C$ decided they care enough about me to incrude me on the victims list of one of the vandalism sprees. They cut construction paper into the shape of hearts and wrote notes on the regarding my looks, their misguilded feeling towards me, and various bodily functions. I will post pics of the crime scene soon. My favorite part of all this is how Jeremy reacts to the notes when he sees them this morning.

the supreme court got it WRONG!!!

I am one of those people who think about politics far more than I talk it but this week’s verdict from the Supreme Court has me steamed so I will take moment and vent.

I understand that the supreme court is not a democratic body and they are not here to enact the will of the majority but I can't imagine walking up to somebody on the street and saying "do you think it is okay for the city government to take your land, give you however much money THEY think it is worth, so that they can turn around and lease it at a profit in order to general public revenue", and them saying "YEAH that seems like a good idea!"

More important than the fact that this SHOULD be unpopular, is that it should be unconstitutional. Thomas Jefferson, a fellow you may have heard of who played a minor role in the founding of our government, had a Lockeian view on government and the social contract. In the view of Jefferson (and most of the other founding fathers) life, liberty and PROPERTY, are inalienable rights that the government is here to protect. I imagine that the halls of Monticello shook and a cry of outrage could be heard at the Jefferson Memorial, Thursday while the verdict was read.

Perhaps this next line of thinks makes me a rightwing nut job but it is a parallel I think is valid which means I can post it here.

In the 1930s the German government, as part of their efforts to stabilize and stimulate their economy, began to cease high value property from a portion of their populace. This is essentially the same behavior the Supreme Court has declared legal in the freest country in the world. The German incident I am referencing is the relocation of German Jews from their private homes into ghettos, and it is now legal here.

(I’d love to hear proffessor Unmack's feed back on this subject if she reads this.)

math for devo

This week devon had his twenty first birthday and as I was pondering on this a math problem became lodged in my brain. I think most people won't get this, but Devon will and so this is for him:

Devon = 21
Devon x 2 = Devon + Darren
therefore:
Devon + Darren = 42

hope you had a great birthday Devon

it's hard to poke yourself in the eye!

I was recently given a sample pair of color contact lenses and I thought, hey maybe if my eyes where green I would no longer need to beet the throngs of girls off me with a stick (and that would be a much needed relief). So I have tried a few times now to put these thin layers of squishee goop on my eye ball to no avail. the general conclussion I have reach is that it is hard to poke yourself in the eye.

WOW, I haven't writen in a month!

The depressing part is I don't feel like much has transpired since the last post. However, for the benefit of those who seek to understand me through these words I will provide an update.
Let’s see there was memorial day... My mom and dad invited all the neighbors over for and pancake breakfast. I invited several of my friends and really enjoyed myself. It was nice to be with family and friends for a few hours. Then I went into work.
School got out for the summer. I felt really good about my finals but one of the classes I took doesn’t show up on my transcript and it was a class I needed to transfer. I should be able to get this squared away soon.
I picked up a video game system. I firmly believe now that the cutting edge in quantum physics ought to be the study of what a video game does to the space time continuum, for I now have evidence that even if the system is turned off it still manages to steel precious time from the life of anyone near it.
Summer school is in. On Monday I will be taking the second test in my six week statistics class. I took stats once before and this time things seem to be going better, but the pace of the class is blinding. If you blink during class you can miss an entire section from the text.
Church: I am now official. Last week I was set apart as Elders Quorum President, and my two counselors were as well. I am starting to feel a sense of connection to the quorum and to the ward also. I am also starting to understand how much responsibility the president of the quorum has, and in a singles ward with no aaronic priesthood to speak of and no high priests group at all it is slightly magnified.
Work. Same old stuff. The hotel was very busy for a week because the NCAA track and field finals were here in town the same week as all the local high school graduations. It was so busy that we were turning away some of our regulars. However, it has quieted back down. the hotel remodel has about 1/3 of our rooms unrentable so it never gets too crazy.
This week heralds my first anniversary at this hotel. This is now the long continuous job I have held and that is kind of exciting, it would be even more exciting if I was getting a raise this week, but that’ll come eventually.
Well that covers most of my life I will post later tonight with a few things from this week, but until then; Good Night
